Aghios Athanasios (Prenies)

The number of the permanent residents of the settlement is 15. There are traces in the settlement, from the classic period. «The olive groves are dominant in this settlement as well. The renovated little church of Aghios Athanasios and the main of Mornos that passes through and leads to Attica, (in order to ‘satisfy the thirst’ of not only the capital of Greece but also other regions), are the only sights. In earlier times, the settlement was full of farmers that came down with goats and sheep from the mountains, in order to be protected from the snow and the cold, during the winter».

Karioti (or Kariotis)

Karioti is also a coastal settlement and has 72 permanent residents. Long time ago, the winter folds of the Liliaions, Zoulfeon and Botsaion were located. Today, many of the folds are abandoned. «Lower, near the sea, beautiful rural residences are built that are inhabited especially during the winter and summer. The coastal Karioti consists mainly of two smaller settlements, Liliaiika and Zouflaiika. Sights of the region are the trim olive yards, stone yards with the amazing view, the clean beach and, of course, the two near uninhabited islets Ambelos and Daskalio, which «swim» in the clear water of the Corinthian Gulf. Local boatmen can transport you there, where you will enjoy the resonant flights of the surprised wild doves and the squawk of the silver gulls. The marine euphorbia, a kind of flower, that overflow the two islets complete the scene».

Tarsos

Tarsos, having a population of almost 48 residents, is a coastal settlement of the Community of Kyriaki. It is of a great archaeological interest. In the region, traces of the settlement from the proto- Hellenic, the classic and Hellenic period were found.

The two most important sights of the region are the Castle and the Tower of Tarsus. For the first sight, we have to mention that there are traces of the fortification onto oblong high ground “Castle”, which show that this region formed the Acropolis of the settlement that had an extend up to the northern foot of the hill. The Tower is located roughly 300 metres lower. Maybe, the Tower and the Castle communicated to each other in order to achieve the co-ordination on the monitoring of the area.

Apart from its archaeological interest, the settlement is famous for its «threshing floors, which travel us to other periods of time, the olive yards and the unique beach of Almyros with the all white pebbles and the steep gigantic rocks that surround it».

Panaghia Kalamiotissa (Karachalios)

Panaghia Kalamiotissa is the greatest coastal settlement of the Community that has 91 permanent residents and quite more people in the summer, residences of Kyriaki but also visitors that choose the region for their vacancies. The area is characterized by laced coasts with deep blue water and sandy beaches. The fabulous scene is completed by the local fishermen with their all white boats. Dirt-roads connect the settlement with Aghios Athanassios, Precursor (Prodromos), Saranti to the south, with Aspra Spitia, Antikyra, Distomo etc to the north.

Panaghia Kalamiotissa has a great extend and consists of many smaller settlements (Skipaiika, Koutaiika, Michaiika, Revythaiika, Babaiika, Spyridaiika, Karraiika), which have taken their names from the first settlers. Panaghia Kalamiotissa is not only of interest during the summer months, but also for all year long, as it includes very remarkable sights. The visitor may start walking from the temple of Panaghia Kalamiotissa and afterwards reaching the Monastery of Saint (Aghion) Theodoron. The Monastery of Aghion Theodoron is built on a rock and has a panoramic view on the Corinthian Gulf. It includes two more temples; the one of Holy Ieronymos and the other of Holy David and a library in it. Probably, this particular location was already settled from the 7th century A.D. and it was used also as an observatory for the protection of the ancient city of Voulida (that was in the other side). Parts of the fortress of the Acropolis are still rescued. During the period of the years of the Ottoman occupation, a place of exercise with a small number of monks existed on the rock, however, the place was abandoned after the Revolution of 1821.

Kyriaki

The settlements of Panaghia Kalamiotissa (Karachalios), Tarsos, Karioti and Aghios Athanasios belong to the Community of Kyriaki.

«As it is built in the centre of a mountainous area, in Elikonas, which is covered with firs, Kyriaki is among the most beautiful villages of Greece. It is a flourishing, picturesque settlement, with different levels, in an attitude that is between 760 and 860m., having beautiful houses, close to each other, with narrow streets, clean yards, rich shops, traditional cafes, modern cafeterias, taverns-grill houses, modern cheese-dairies with genuine cheese products, bakeries with country bread and other pastries, patisseries».

Kyriaki is organised around a central square called “The Honest Precursor” (Timiou Prodromou). Traditional cafes exist around the square, where locals and visitors satisfy their thirst. For those, who want to see more, we recommend they walk through the central street of the settlement, the street of 3rd October, where shops, bars and modern cafeterias exist.

Around the square and a few away of it, there are taverns offering traditional foods (roasted or boiled meat, “splinantero”, “kokoretsi”), dairy products of excellent quality (feta cheese, latish cheese “opsimotiri”, mizithra, manouri, yogurt, formaela), high quality wine, draught beer, country-style salads, green-stuff with pure olive oil (4 olive oil presses operate in the village).

The three bakeries are suggested for fresh bread and other products. “From all the spices, the bakery smells better” it is commonly said.

You will enjoy aromatic tea (from Elikonas mountain) at the coffee shops.

All the above and more others will satisfy even the more demanding visitors and “captivate” all those tasting them.

And when it is time for candies and ice creams, you should ask the two candy stores and all the coffee shops as well.

After having tasted local food, you should visit the “Big Fountain” and the “Madonna” (the first church of the village) in beautiful surroundings, lay comfortably under the trees and on the blue-grass at Ai Gianni, at the edge of the village, view the impressive stone-made houses with the lap-made roofs, the clean as a whistle yards and the gardens with the flowers and the greenery.

Apart from the square of The Honest Precursor (Timiou Prodromou) and the central street of the village, it is suggested to visit the little churches of the region. The church of Virgin Mary (the first church of the village), in which’s yard the cemetery of the village existed. Other little churches of the region are: of Saint Ioannis (at the entry of the village from Livadia), Saint Nikolaos on the square with the same name. Around the village, a lot of little beautiful churches exist, Saint Nektarios in Paliokastro, Saint Paraskevi (outside the village, in the old street to Livadia), Saint Georgios (in a distance of three kilometres from Kyriaki, on the street to Arvanitsa) the Prophet Ilias in the location Noracho, and Saint Athanassios in Prenies.

Finally, a remarkable sight is the church of  Aghios (Saint) Georgios Lakkas that belongs to the Monastery of Hosios Loukas, its history begins from the palaeochristian period. The first temple, of which departments of the floor are saved up to today, was destroyed by an earthquake. In the same place a second temple was built in the 12th century that was destroyed in the years of the Ottoman Occupation. During the last years, excavations were made and the floor of the fundamental Christian temple was revealed as well as other findings, which were transported to the Archaeological Museum of the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas.

Apart from the picturesque small churches, important sights of the village are:
°    The Acropolis of the ancient Flygonion (today’s Paliokastro),
°    The Great Cold Fountain,
°    Boulios, the Acropolis of ancient Steirida.

Ancient Steirida was one of the most important cities of Fokida and had been flourishing for many centuries. Today, departments of the ancient wall, tanks, traces of buildings, graves, basins, threshers of oil- presses, are preserved at the castle (hill). However, no systematic excavations have been done in the region.
